Forward through the heavy-duty transom door, and still on the port side, you will find a self-draining storage area, a sink, and a deep trash receptacle.
Below, there is an icemaker and a couple of removable coolers. And to starboard, there is a large seating area with plenty of room for six or more to sit around a large cockpit table, or to lounge out and catch some rays.
Forward and to port, there is more seating for two and the doublewide helm features a double bolster. You know, whether you are a high performance boater or a cruising boater, you will love this helm. The custom formula gauges are not only attractive but they are well laid out and all in plain view. For performance boaters, you will really appreciate the high performance engine controls, and built in engine cut off switches.
And speaking about engines, the hydraulically operated hatch revealed a pair of Mercruiser 500 EFI's, connected to Bravo 3x drives, and 28-inch pitch Bravo 3 propellers.
The integrated radar arch has room for all of your antenna needs, a Formula signature - the large walkway with secure handrails leads you up through the walk-through windshield out onto the foredeck, which is totally non-skid.
Heading below decks to port, there is a large freezer/ refrigerator, and the galley is fully equipped with a built in cook top, a built in trash container, a deep stainless sink, and a microwave located here under the counter. And when it comes to storage, the 400 Super Sport certainly is not lacking.
Forward is an enormous v- shaped seating area that is great for lounging and watching television that can also convert to an equally enormous dinette. The aft cabin features a queen size berth and for entertainment, a flat screen TV, DVD and sound system. The head is large, with almost 6 feet of headroom. There are Corean counter tops with easy to clean surfaces.
Out on the water, pushing the throttles forward, the Mercruiser 500s cut this 40-foot, 16,000-pound boat out of the hole and up onto plane in just over 10 seconds. And it was up and running that the 400 Super Sport really shone. I found plenty of speed available from the combination of 1,000 hp under the deck, and the formula highperformance hull. In the turns, the 400 felt surprisingly nimble, and that is likely due to the focused engineering work that Formula has put into the strep, shine, strake and keel pad placement.
The Formula seems to have developed a winning formula combining cruising amenities with high performance in their 400 Super Sport, proving that you can have it all and take it with you quickly.
