2000 Doral 360 SE
|
The flagship of any fleet attracts all the attention, but may draw all the fire as well. As flagship of the Doral International fleet, the 360 SE attracts nothing but the best kinds of attention. It's got up-to-the-minute design, flexibility - two interior finish options and plenty of power options - and lots of stylish space for entertaining friends or family. From a design point of view, express cruisers can opt to maximize available cabin space for privacy or entertainment, cutting up the belowdecks area into smaller private cabins or leaving the salon as open as possible. |

Doral's 360 SE is a compromise, with a large private enclosed forward master stateroom and a open mid-cabin with convertible dinette. The open-tread varnished-wood companionway helps define distinct gathering areas, but still leaves a sense of open space.
While the belowdecks layout remains the same on all versions of the 360 SE, the standard off-white Octolam finish offers bright easily cleaned surfaces, and the optional Deluxe Ligna veneer finish has the rich look of stained wood. It's just a matter of personal taste. On deck, space and comfort come standard with a semi-circular lounge/dinette aft and a settee opposite the spacious double-wide power-adjustable helm seat. Side decks make it easy to reach the foredeck sunpad.
Power options abound, since the boats can be ordered with inboard V-drives or sterndrives, with gasoline or diesel engines. The Today's Boating test boat was powered by twin 8.2 L MPI Mercury MerCruiser inboards, pushing 19" X 20" props. The twin 400-hp gasoline engines were revving too high with the 20" props but the performance - radar-checked top speed of 37.2 mph and cruising speeds in the 20- to 30-mph range - was still not bad. Installing 22-inch props would make a big improvement. Sterndrives, too, would likely add some speed, but I still prefer the big-water handling and close-quarters manoeuvrability that inboards offer.
While the standard-equipment list is long (including a VHF radio, compass, depthfinder, wood steering wheel, full camper top and hot water system, for example), the 360 SE also has a few desirable options. The fibreglass extended swim platform is convenient, but the teak-topped swim platform is positively luxurious; the electrically lowered radar arch is attractive as it is practical.
When it comes to storage, though, the 360 SE, like all Doral cruisers, makes no compromises. There's a place for everything. Table-tops fit neatly under the forward berth and the forward-stateroom has hanging lockers, drawers beneath the bed and even small lockers up against the sides of the hull. The galley cupboards and drawers are spacious, the salon is lined with overhead lockers and even the head has needed storage. Fenders store neatly in swim-platform brackets, and hoses, power cords and extra lines store in transom lockers.
So when you pull up to the dock and your friends swarm aboard, the new 360 SE is clean, uncluttered, open and inviting.
