On-Air Television Boating Expert
Temporary Contract
(3-4 months, potential to become full-time)

The On-Air Host (Boating Expert) role is primarily focused on supporting the boat testing aspects of PowerBoat Television and the video content of Lifestyle’s various properties.

As a part of a fully integrated media company, the On-Air Host (Boating Expert) will also contribute content to Boats&Places magazine and monthly e-newsletter, as required.

The On-Air Host (Boating Expert) will be comfortable enough in his or her knowledge of boating to confidently and independently operate and review, on camera, a variety of new and used boats from PWCs to sport yachts and provide viewers an informed, but entertaining, expert opinion.

Responsibilities:

Television

  • Independently produce assigned segments, including research, planning, scheduling, logistics/travel and management of crew during shooting of boat reviews (new and used) as part of the 2018 season of PowerBoat Television (airing nationally on Global TV). The successful candidate will be featured in every show of the 13-episode season that airs four times throughout the calendar year.
  • Act as on-air host and script writer and record voice-overs of edited scripts for all assigned segments
  • Provide input and make changes as required by video editor
  • Represent Lifestyle Integrated/PowerBoat Television with clients and with members of the public
  • Must be willing commute to Barrie, Ontario
  • Must be willing and able to travel. Most shoots take place within a few hours drive of the Barrie office, but new boat models are often only made available near the manufacturing location. Travelling out of province or to the U.S. for a few days is an annual requirement

Internet

  • Schedule, shoot, script, edit, package and upload web-only videos

Other

  • Provide written articles and supporting photography for Boats&Places magazine as assigned
  • Work directly with clients to meet contractual obligations such as commercials or corporate videos, striving to improve relationships to secure new business and develop new content
  • Assist with the maintenance of all video and production equipment
  • Other duties and tasks that may be assigned

The On-Air Host (Boating Expert) will be an integral part of the content development team, but will be asked to work independently on most projects. Therefore, he/she must be a creative, self-motivated idea generator, with superior multi-tasking and time management skills.

We work efficiently and to tight deadlines. Oftentimes, this means chipping in on tasks that are technically outside the official job description. A can-do attitude is essential to earn the respect of colleagues and is the only way to ensure success in this position.

This also means you’re not punching a timecard. If something is due, it’s due whether the clock hits 5 or not. There will be long, hot days out on the water, but that’s part of the job. So at the end of the day, you really need to enjoy what you do, be committed to performing to the best of your abilities and look to the people alongside you for encouragement, input and support.

Reporting

Lifestyle is a small company with a flat management structure. Ultimately everyone reports to the President/Owner, but works in harmony with the entire team.

Skills Required

  • Degree or diploma in television broadcasting or a related field, combined with work experience in television production, including on-air hosting
  • Comfortable operating a video camera; knowledge of Sony EX1R and PMW-320 would be an asset
  • Capability with Final Cut Pro and an understanding of the digital editing work flow; experience with Adobe Creative Suite would be an asset
  • Previous on-air experience is an asset in any capacity

Other Job Requirements

  • Willingness to travel and work non-traditional hours
  • A passion for boating with the experience to back it up
  • Hold a Pleasure Craft Operator Card

  • Candidates selected for an interview may be required to participate in an on-water test shoot
